Stallone admitted that the film is filled with narrative failures and it focuses on cool dialogue and flashy racing sequences over a compelling story. He acknowledges that the film suffers from an absence of originality and that the racing scenes, whereas visually spectacular, lack actual pleasure. Stallone additionally talked about that he wished he had "skipped" the film completely.
