At coaching camp on Tuesday, the Browns misplaced a key defender resulting from damage. Beginning CB Martin Emerson Jr. went down resulting from a non-contact damage. On Wednesday morning, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Community confirmed what Browns followers have been fearing. Emerson tore his Achilles and can miss the complete 2024 season.

Through the third spherical of the 2022 NFL draft, the Browns chosen Martin Emerson Jr. out of Mississippi State. As a rookie, Emerson performed in all 17 video games and made six begins for Cleveland. In 2023, he performed in 16 of the Browns’ 17 video games and made 12 begins. The previous third-round decide completed with a career-high 4 interceptions. Final season, Emerson Jr. performed in all 17 video games and made 15 begins for the Browns.
His 62 solo tackles and three tackles for loss have been a brand new private finest. The 24-year-old was set to enter the ultimate season of his rookie contract with the Browns. Through the play, Emerson Jr. suffered a non-contact damage. He tried to rise up however was unable to place any weight on his leg. Emerson fell to the bottom and threw his helmet in frustration. This can be a huge loss for the Browns defensively. Martin Emerson was rising as their beginning CB alongside Denzel Ward. The staff is not going to have the companies of Emerson Jr. in 2025.
Fortunately, the Browns do have Greg Newsome II, who can begin at CB. He performed in 13 video games for Cleveland in 2024 and made three begins. In 4 years, Newsome has performed in 54 video games and has 42 begins for the Browns. With Newsome making the swap from nickel nook, somebody might want to step up. Cameron Mitchell and Myles Harden will compete for taking part in time. Harden was a 2024 seventh-round decide.
