Francisco Alvarez will not be within the minor leagues for one single cause. That the Mets’ lineup plunges in effectiveness after the cleanup spot is actually excessive on the record.
Cue the irony machine as a result of it was Alvarez, on the onset of spring coaching, who boldly said: “I feel we’re the perfect lineup in baseball.” He meant 1-to-9. He particularly meant higher than the Dodgers.
As an alternative, the Mets have been so-so. They closed the weekend thirteenth in runs per recreation at 4.45 — the MLB common was 4.35.
The primary wrongdoer is that the totality of the lineup — the 1-to-9 of all of it — simply has not been that good.
