When Matt Serra returned to the welterweight division in 2005, the burden class was dominated by Matt Hughes.

Hughes had simply defeated Georges St-Pierre to win again the title after dropping it to B.J. Penn. Previous to the Hughes and St-Pierre rematch at UFC 65, Serra was on The Final Fighter 4 as a welterweight contestant. St-Pierre was a coach in the course of the season and Hughes appeared as a visitor coach.

Serra and Hughes would go on to have an intense rivalry that started in the course of the filming of TUF 4. Serra defined what began the rivalry on his YouTube channel and the way it centered round St-Pierre.

“On season 4 of The Final Fighter, we did not have – normally they’ve set coaches – as a result of we have been all veterans we had guys simply serving to out as coaches. Randy Couture, Mark DellaGrotte from Boston, an excellent Muay Thai coach, and we’ve Georges St-Pierre. Matt Hughes got here in too,” Serra defined.

“Me and Matt Hughes, as soon as upon a time, early on, first received alongside as properly. We have been pleasant with one another. We used to goof. He was a farm man. I used to be from Lengthy Island, so we might have just a little banter with that. However nothing unhealthy. It was at all times pleasant. How I had an issue with Matt Hughes was instantly attributable to how he was treating GSP on The Final Fighter 4.”

“It is a actuality present, so once we return to the van we’re all speaking. It is the primary time I noticed Matt Hughes act like, like being a bully. So, clearly, I am going proper to the blokes and go, ‘Dude, Matt Hughes, what a jerk off.’ We’re speaking they usually air that” Serra stated. “Clearly I am like, ‘I am not cool with that man anymore.’ However it all needed to do with Georges St-Pierre as a result of Georges is such a pleasant man.”
